Household Waste Separation

Unfortunately, the municipality of Bertrix has very strict regulations regarding household waste separation.

For this reason, we offer two waste disposal options:

• Option 1: Waste separation (€15.00)
• Option 2: Unsorted waste (€75.00 per half container)

As the municipality of Bertrix has, on several occasions, failed to empty our municipal waste container due to incorrectly sorted waste, we will inspect the waste after your departure and, if necessary, transfer it to the (paid) SHANKS container if it has not been sorted correctly.

Option 1 – Separate Your Waste (€15.00)

Please separate your waste into the appropriate categories and use the designated containers.

Please collect separately:

Recyclables (Blue Bags)

Place the following items together in the blue recycling bags, flattened as much as possible to save space:

• Metal packaging
• Flattened drink cartons
• Flattened plastic bottles with caps
• Plastic food containers and trays

Organic Waste (Food & Garden Waste)

Fruit and vegetable waste should be collected separately in the designated organic waste bin.

Please fill these bags to no more than one-quarter full, as they become too heavy otherwise. We will dispose of these bags for you.

Glass

Glass bottles and jars must be taken by you to the public bottle bank in Mortehan.

Directions:
From the castle entrance, turn left, cross the bridge towards Mortehan, then immediately turn left after the bridge. Opposite the church, take the road uphill on the right towards the cemetery. The two glass recycling containers are located next to the cemetery.

If we have to dispose of your glass after your departure, an additional charge will apply. This service is not included in the final cleaning fee.

Paper & Cardboard

Paper, cardboard packaging and cardboard boxes must not be placed in the waste containers.

Please leave them separately (flattened), and we will dispose of them for you.

A fee of €15.00 applies for the removal of paper and cardboard.

Residual Waste

All remaining household waste should be placed in the dark grey municipal waste container, located at the castle entrance gate.

Option 2 – Do Not Separate Your Waste (€75.00 per Half Container)

If you choose not to separate your household waste, you may dispose of it in the SHANKS container.

A charge of €75.00 per half-filled container will always apply.

To maximise the available space, you may empty your rubbish bags directly into the container.

Please Note

Glass is never permitted in the SHANKS container.

This includes bottles, jars and any other glass items.

Large cardboard boxes should also not be placed in the SHANKS container, as they take up considerable space and may require you to pay for more than half a container.

Glass must always be taken by you to the public bottle bank in Mortehan.

We can dispose of your flattened cardboard boxes for a fee of €15.00.

If glass is found in the SHANKS container, we will have to remove it manually and transport it to the glass recycling point.

An additional charge of €25.00 will be added to your SHANKS container fee to cover these extra costs.
